Robin Antar

Artist Bio

Robin Antar has been practicing sculpture, as a stone carver, since 1974. As a sculptor, Antar has developed many different techniques and diverse styles of sculpting in stone. In the eighties Antar developed a unique technique of tinting the stones with unusual stains, to allow her to have total control of the mood and sensations the viewer experiences.

In the nineties Antar started to explore realistic stone carving. She combines all of her unusual techniques to make the images have the most realistic appearance.

"I carve out of stone objects from anything in sight that surrounds us in our daily life. "Freezing" the object, still with the three- dimensional effect is the ultimate goal that I'd like to achieve; each work is done on the inspiration of how the actual object looks in reality, this could be something old, something new, something edible, something that we use in our daily living …, and in general, when certain objects caught my inspiration, I like to carve these objects in stone with the original "feel" at that moment, this could be the nooks and crannies, the creases, the folds, the dents, the crevices and every single part that portrayed the object; in a sense, it is captured in stone and outlasts the real object itself and hopefully stands to become a 'visual' record of our culture."
