Artist Bio
Judith Wrend was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois in 1941, and grew up in Michigan. She received a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Kalamazoo College in 1963, then attended the University of Chicago where she completed a Master's degree in teaching in 1966. In the early 70s, while raising her three daughters, she took a welding class at the Evanston Art Center, in Illinois, where she studied with Michajlo Urbahn. She knew then that she had found her life's work. A fascination with moving forms led from the beginning to kinetic sculpture. After living several years in the Chicago area, then Philadelphia, Judith felt a pull to return to the North. Vermont became her home in 1981. She established her studio at her home in Morrisville, where she lives and works, looking out over the Green Mountains.
Judith's work is included in The Bronfman Collection, Seagrams Building, Montreal PQ; Vermont Art in State Buildings, Middlesex VT; GE Energy Systems, Atlanta GA; IVACO, Montreal PQ; Copley Hospital, Morrisville VT; The Arnold Friedman Collection of Kinetic Toys, Hadley MA, GE Energy Systems, Atlanta, GA and many private collections.
